Edwin Francis Colon, BFA
President & Chief Executive Officer, Xanthe Films LLC

Edwin Francis Colon is the co-owner and CEO of Xanthe Films and Xanthe TV. He was born in Punta Gorda Town, Belize on June 9, 1984 to Garifuna and Hispanic parents.  He attended St. Peter Claver Elementary School where he was amongst the school’s brightest students and later graduated to attend Toledo Community College (TCC) which was the only secondary school at that time in Punta Gorda. He served as president of the TCC Environmental Club and later became an environmental activist who would join in many protests against the illegal logging of the Columbia Forest Reserve in support of the indigenous Mayan and Quechi indian community. He was nominated for the James A. Waight Award by world renowned botanist, Dr. Alfred Lau given by the Belize Audubon Society in 1999, which was awarded to the late Mayan activist Julian Cho, who also taught him at TCC. Edwin was instead awarded the first ever Junior Conservation Achievement Award for his “tireless efforts in the enhancement of Belize’s environment.”

Edwin left TCC suddenly while he was an 11th grade student for medical reasons that almost ended his life. Shortly after his departure from Belize to Denver and accompanied by a friend from Wyoming, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Denver Children’s Hospital. After going through cardiac arrest and diet treatment, he underwent open chest heart surgery performed by Dr. David Clarke. He was invited to recuperate in neighboring Laramie, Wyoming with friend Dr. Jim Thompson and his wife Nancy on their beautiful ranch.

After recuperating Edwin later returned to Belize and started home school with a Christian missionary and their family to complete high school. During his senior year in high school, Edwin also became an intern at the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE), a new local non-governmental organization for which he was later hired as their first Information Technology Officer and Multi-Media Producer. During the evenings and at night he was also a part-time teacher at Claver College Extension Department and a tutor at Toledo Institute of Productivity (TIP). He attended Laramie County Community College and served as Senator on the Student Government and President of the International Student Organization across Cultures Club and also attended the University of Wyoming.

Edwin's film credit includes The Courtroom (2003), Garifuna Pride: The Legacy (2006) and N.O. Imigrantes (2007) an independent film directed and produced by actress Zandra Rivera. His first documentary, A Day In The Life of a Ranger (2002) was featured at the 2002 U.N.D.P. Equator Initiative Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa as part of a presentation for TIDE. Edwin now resides in Chicago, Illinois where he serves as President & CEO of his own film and multimedia company and is pursuing a degree in Film, which will be his second degree and working with other local filmmakers on various projects. He sits on the Board of Directors of two local charitable organizations, Big Medicine, NFP, Chicago Makers Soccer Club NFP and frequently volunteers with other charities. Edwin has two sisters, Florayne and Flowayne and one brother, Myrick who reside in Southern Belize with his mother and step-father. These days Edwin and crew at Xanthe Films are busy working on the upcoming productions Agada (2008) based on a true story by Dr. Ludwig Palacio and Fahrenheit Belize (2007), a feature documentary.
